I still remember the day I dropped my son off for his very first day of kindergarten. I held it together—smiled, waved, reassured him I’d be back. Then I ran out the side door by. Mrs. Fusby's room… and absolutely lost it. My husband looked at me like I was crazy and asked, "What is wrong?" I yelled back, "He's going to graduate from high school. That is what is wrong."

In that moment, I knew something had shifted.

And here we are... my son is set to graduate next year and my daughter the following. I am NOT well.

Kindergarten feels so big when you’re in it. New routines. New friends. Independence. Backpacks that seem almost too large for their little shoulders. It’s exciting and emotional all at the same time. What we don’t realize yet is how quickly this chapter becomes a memory.

The ride is short.

The years fly.

And suddenly, high school graduation doesn’t feel that far away.

Looking back now, I wish I would have thought to capture this season in a more intentional way for my own kids—my son and my daughter—before they headed off to their first year of kindergarten. I would have loved to have an image like this displayed at their graduation parties years later. Or even just tucked away as a reminder of who they were right then—on the edge of something new, brave, and exciting.

Because this stage is so special.
