Big Dreams...
I am 45 years old, wife, mother of two, teacher, and now... photographer.
Why not?
I have always loved pictures, that is no secret. My walls are filled with memories and I have boxes of unopened prints from Disney trips, sporting events, dance recitals, family vacations, and school programs. What I didn't know was how much I loved taking pictures and editing them to send off to another family. The dream has been building for two years now. Buy a girl a camera and see what things may come. My husband got me a fancy sports lens and I hit the ground running at sporting events. I spent my mornings, afternoons, and evenings at ballparks with my new camera. I asked lots of questions, watched a lot of you tube videos, and I am still not even close to reaching my full potential. But I like being a learner. Perhaps that is the teacher/student in me. I know won't be easy, I know that there will be hiccups, I know that there might be shoots that don't go the way I intended. But what kind of example am I if I don't go for my dreams when I tell my kids to go after theirs. I guess it was a few months ago in my psychology class that finally tipped the scale for me to go for it. I had been talking about it to my class and that the fear of failure and the unknown that was holding me back... the "Jonah Complex" as spoken about in Psych. One of my students wrote their weekly journal article and talked to my fear and said, Mrs. Day... I think you should go for it! I thought it was time for me to do that too! So, I have been preparing, building, creating, and learning. 2024 is the year of the leap. I can't wait for this journey and if I fall, I'll get back up. But at least I'm not on the sidelines.
